To develop the competency required to enable the student to carry out his duties as a Deck Officer in the Merchant Navy.
To provide the student with a qualification which will be accepted by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK) as giving exemption from parts of their Deck Officer Certificates of Competency at Class 2 and Class 1 levels, and to satisfy the initial training requirements of the MCA, for entry to Class 3.
To satisfy all the requirements laid down by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the Merchant Navy Training Board and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers.
Programme Pattern
This Programme comprises 42 weeks in Academy and about 40 weeks in Glasgow College of Nautical Studies, UK.Candidates who complete 42 weeks training in Academy and pass the entire learning outcome with attendance percentage of not less than 90 will be proceeding to UK to complete their level 2 subjects. After completing the training in UK, candidate has to complete 15 months sea training by their own arrangement, again undergo training for 3 months for the 2nd mate preparatory Programme in their respective college to appear for the examination conducted by Maritime and Coast Guard Agency, UK who are the examination body for the UK License. Candidate who successfully passes the MCA examination will be awarded with 2nd mate License.

Educational Qualification
A pass in Plus-two (12th Standard) or its equivalent with minimum 50% aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry Group and minimum 50% marks in English.
Medical Standard
Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms, with eye sight 6/6 in better eye, 6/9 in other eye and with no colour blindness. The candidate will have to appear in IELTS examination for English proficiency with minimum score of 5.5.
